Children's Outpatient Services provides treatment for children and adolescents and their families and is intended to improve and maintain a child’s or an adolescent’s stability in the community. Treatment focuses on problem resolution, symptom reduction, stabilization and/or prevention of movement to a higher level of care. Services include individual, family and group therapy, medication evaluation and management, case management, in home intervention, case consultation and summer day treatment services. The type of treatment is highly variable and depends upon the individual’s existing symptoms and developmental level.

The Team Lead:

• Assists the program coordinator in planning and organizing program activities; Supports behavior staff
• Assists in writing program status reports, as applicable
• Assists in assuring program goals and objectives that support the organization’s strategic plan are met
• Assures that program standards and objectives are met
• Assists in identifying problems and implementing effective solutions
• Assists in providing staff coverage for crisis intervention

 General Responsibilities:

• Provides ongoing monitoring and interaction with consumers
• Provides daily assessment of consumer’s behavior via level system point sheets according to policy and standards
• Assists consumers with personal care (bathing, toileting and other personal hygiene items), medication use, chores, outings, and safety issues
• Provides training on basic living skills according to the consumer’s target goals, as identified by treatment team
• Ensures completion of weekly summaries per program guidelines
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation
• Applies time-out/protective hold/seclusion/restraint per AltaPointe Health Policy and Procedures
• Effectively collaborates with the treatment team members
• Models appropriate behavior including but not limited to communication skills, grooming, manners, etc.
• Effectively demonstrates the application of child/adolescent specific competencies
• Maintains employee time in employee software

Knowledge in child/adolescent specialties, outlined below, to be attained within (6) six months of employment:

• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in child and adolescent populations
• Basic knowledge of growth and development of child/adolescent consumers as related to all intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of the consumer’s development
• Basic knowledge of behavior management and parenting issues
• Knowledge of cultural diversity
• Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention and interventions common to acute psychotic consumers, as well as, to non-violent crisis intervention practices.
• Knowledge of effects of physical/sexual/emotional abuse and neglect issues
• Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to child/adolescent psychiatric disorders
• Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation principals
• Successful completion of Medication Assistance Certification (MAC)
• Knowledge of DMH and Medicaid Standards

Bachelor degree in a mental health discipline. 

Must be at least 23 years of age or older, maintain a valid Alabama driver license, and acceptable driving record.
