Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Provides effective clinical assessment of the consumer
  2. Utilizes assessment data to support a DSMV substance abuse and mental health diagnosis
  3. Formulates appropriate treatment plan along with consumer
  4. Provides individual, group, and family therapy, utilizing basic therapeutic models and theories according to consumer needs as stated in the treatment plan
  5. Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation
  6. Effectively collaborates with the treatment team members and outside sources in the delivery of clinical services
  7. Evaluates the consumer for discharge planning
  8. Adheres to professional code of ethics
  9. Effectively demonstrates the application of substance abuse specific competencies
  10. Provides HIV/AIDS education, counseling, and testing when necessary
  11. Conducts random observed UA’s of same sex consumers

Supervision and Consultation:

  1. Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed
  2. Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement
  3. Actively works to enhance clinical skills

Clinical Record Keeping:

  1. Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy
  2. Documents appropriate, complete, and clinically comprehensive mental health assessments
  3. Documents measurable and specific goals in the treatment plan
  4. Documents in a clear and concise manner, types of consumer problems, treatment goals addressed, services, and techniques used
  5. Documents case disposition, case closings, follow-up and referrals

Case Load Management:

  1. Effectively manages caseload based on consumer needs
  2. Meets AltaPointe productivity standards

Courteous and respectful towards consumers, visitors and co-workers

  1. Treats consumers with care, dignity and compassion
  2. Respects consumer’s privacy and confidentiality
  3. Is pleasant and cooperative with others
  4. Assists consumers and visitors as needed

Administrative and Other Related Duties as Assigned:

  1. Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  2. Actively participates in AltaPointe committees as required.
  3. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  4. Accesses appropriate community resources according to consumer needs.
  5. Follows AltaPointe policies and procedures.
  6. Maintains current license and requirements for renewals (i.e. CEU's), if applicable, and attends regular workshops and in-services.

Physical Requirements of the Job: 

  • There is frequent standing, sitting, and walking which are in bursts of 5 to 10 minutes; however, there are times when this can be extended to monitor consumers (time undetermined).  At times sitting and standing can be extended with the employee having the ability to change positions as permitted by the observance and behavior of the consumer at that time.
  • Walking can be frequent at times and may vary in distance throughout the facility.  Also, employees will have to walk to and from the van, to and from the facility and store, and in the store while taking consumers to the store to buy personal items. 
  • There is repetitive forward reaching to hand out lunches to the consumers.  This activity is daily, the frequency will vary according to the census, and a lifting force of up to 3 pounds is needed. 
  • Daily, a push force is needed to handle cart when lunches are delivered to facility and to open and/or close doors on van.  Maximum force up to 25 pounds. 
  • Fine manipulation and dexterity to handle paperwork in charts, writing, computer keyboarding, data entry, use of a mouse which is frequent in nature.
  • Any other duties that are assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in a mental health discipline with two years of substance abuse experience plus NAADAC, AADAA, or IC&RC certification or become LGSW, LPC or LCSW required within two years of employment.  LPC, LCSW, or LMFT with two years of substance abuse experience preferred upon hire.  Knowledge of adult specialty, outlined below, to be attained within (6) six months of employment:

 

  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the adult population
  • Knowledge of the nature of addiction as a primary illness.
  • Knowledge of gender specific issues relative to addiction
  • Knowledge of Substance Abuse treatment principles
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles
  • Knowledge of twelve-step support groups such as AA, NA, CA, and other self-help groups
  • Understands the dynamics of co-dependency of addicted individuals and other typical behaviors of these consumers, such as denial and manipulation
  • Understands the behavioral, psychological, physical health and social effects of psychoactive drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, on the consumer and significant others
  • Knowledge of helping strategies for reducing the negative effects of substance abuse and dependency and how to tailor strategies and treatment modalities to the consumer’s stage of dependency, change or recovery
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical resources in the treatment of addictive disease and other substance related disorders
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity
  • Knowledge of the risk for illnesses among IV drug users such as HIV/AIDS and T.B
  • Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system including court hearings, judges, court referral officers, probation officers if applicable
  • Knowledge of behavioral management, crisis intervention to consumers with substance abuse/addiction issues

 

In addition for Methadone program:

Knowledge of opioid substitution therapy and its expected clinical effect (prevent withdrawal symptoms, reduce or eliminate craving and block the effect of any other illicit or self-administered opioids
