Responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Directs the clinical nursing services provided at Accordia Pediatrics and Pediatric Psychiatry and Accordia Health & Wellness
  2. Identifies problems, evaluates alternatives and implements effective solutions.
  3. Monitors program contracts, budgets, staff productivity as directed.
  4. Ensures compliance with DMH, FQHC, Joint Commission, and Medicaid standards.
  5. Ensures compliance with HRSA and UDS data requirements.
  6. Communicates effectively with the physician regarding the consumer’s physical and mental condition as needed.
  7. Interfaces with the multi-disciplinary team and actively and cooperatively participates in development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan as needed
  8. Administers medications, observing the Seven Rights of medication administration.
  9. Contacts laboratory, requests and monitor results, and reports all abnormal findings to the physician.
  10. Provides emergency care as needed (CPR, MindSet, PRN Medications), per AltaPointe Policy & Procedures as needed.
  11. Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation as needed.
  12. Adheres to professional code of ethics.
  13. Effectively demonstrates the application of child/adolescent and adult specific competencies.
  14. Monitor and manage stock medications.
  15. Monitor, manage, and maintain storage and handling of private and VFC vaccine inventory.
  16. Attend VFC audit and IQIP meetings.
  17. Attend interdisciplinary meetings such as practice management and staff meetings.
  18. Ensure Performance Improvement goals and standards are met.
  19. Maintains current state license and requirements for renewals (i.e. CEU's) and attends the required in services and workshops. 

 2. Administers appropriate personnel functions:

  1. Interviews and screens nursing applicants when necessary and completes appropriate forms as outlined by Personnel Policy and Procedures
  2. Provides staff training in the general orientation of the facility, policies and procedures, program operations and specific skill areas.
  3. Is knowledgeable and applies personnel policies and procedures on a consistent basis.
  4. Objectively completes employee performance evaluations on program staff and routes to Personnel department on a timely basis.
  5. Promotes concept of treatment teams. Acts as a member of treatment team.
  6. Provides positive and effective leadership.
  7. Provides staff with consultation and supervision as needed, individually or through regular group staff meetings.
  8. Ensures competence of program nursing staff
  9. Completes API function bi-weekly within set timeframe given by payroll department 
  10. Assess and assign staffing. 

 

 3. Supervision and Consultation:

  1. Seeks clinical supervision and consultation needs.
  2. Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement.
  3. Actively works to enhance clinical skills.

 

4. Clinical Record Keeping

  1. Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy.
  2. Documents in a clear, concise manner, types of consumers problems, treatment goals and services provided
  3. Ensures documentation shows that forms, notes, logs, and other applicable written information is completed promptly, accurately and updated when appropriate
  4. Documents legibly

 

5. Courteous and respectful attitudes towards consumers, visitors and co-workers:

  1. Treats consumers with care, dignity and compassion
  2. Respects consumer’s privacy and confidentiality
  3. Is pleasant and cooperative with others
  4. Assists consumers and visitors as needed

6.Administrative and Other related duties as Assigned:

  1. Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities
  2. Actively participates in MMHC committees as required
  3. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner
  4. Accesses appropriate community resources according to consumer needs
  5. Follows MMHC Policy & Procedures
  6. Maintains current state license and requirements for renewals (i.e. CEU’s), and attends the required in-services and workshops

Physical Requirements of the Job: 

  • Squatting and/or lunging frequently to stock supplies and retrieve needed supplies/inventory
  • Strong grasp is needed to handle large items related to inventory and lighter grasp is needed for stocking supplies which requires a force exertion of up to 10 pounds.
  • Pushing and/or pulling force up to 1-5 pounds force, horizontally, to open file cabinets and place binders on book shelves.
  • Lifting various ranges from the floor to overhead with weights up to 1-5 pounds frequently.
  • Must lift 40-50lbs floor to waist occasionally to frequent.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Possesses current RN’s license to practice in the state of Alabama. Knowledge in child/adolescent and adult specialty, outlined below, to be attained within (6) six months of employment:

 

  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the child/adolescent and adult population
  • Knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing care
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiarity of psychopharmacology and the use of psychotropic medications with the child/adolescent and adult population
  • Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention and, interventions common to acute psychotic consumers as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practice
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development
  • Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to children/adolescents with severe and persistent psychiatric disorder
  • Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to adults and children specific to medial and psychiatric conditions 
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity
  • Knowledge of DMH, HRSA, Medicaid and Joint Commission standards
  • Knowledge of utilizing electronic health record
  • Knowledge of private insurance reimbursement
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care Principles
