The Public Relations Specialist will support the Office of Public Relations to ensure the smooth running of the office and programs. This position will be the front desk “face” of the office and handle day-to-day interactions with all levels of staff members and customers with whom PR works. This individual will maintain files, produce reports, and track processes related to all public relations functions. The PR Specialist also will assist with maintenance of public relations publications, Web site content and other media. The Public Relations Specialist reports to the Director of Public Relations to execute timely and effective communication to AltaPointe Health Systems employees, key stakeholders and the communities served by AHS.


Experience/Job Knowledge

  1. General knowledge of communication, public relations, advertising and marketing.
  2. Proven experience in editing and writing for news media, publications, social media.
  3. General knowledge of working with content management systems, publication design, printing process, photography, videography, video editing.
  4. Familiarity with A/V equipment.
  5. Negotiating and customer service skills.
  6. Expertise in relating appropriately with a broad and varied population

  1. Assist with job tracking of projects, presentations, schedules, etc., electronically
  2. Assist with writing and / or gathering copy, art/images, for AltaNews employee newsletter, AltaLink, and other publications as assigned.
  3. Assist with scheduling / tracking of programs, such as, Five-Star Customer Care (5SCC) and corporate events.
  4. Assist with 5SCC displays, transcription/design and distribution of AltaPraise cards.
  5. Assist with the distribution and monitoring of media coverage.
  6. Assist with photography.
  7. Create and maintain news media and other contact databases, editorial calendars.
  8. Assist with fielding calls and requests from news media and internal departments.
  9. Maintain calendar of events, community outreach, speaking engagements.
  10. Maintain AltaLink calendar and other pages as assigned.
  11. Maintain photo and video files.
  12. Maintain inventory of specialty items and giveaways.
  13. Assist with ordering specialty items and marketing/PR collateral pieces.
  14. Conduct general administrative duties such as faxing, filing, copying, phone calls, etc.
  15. Complete, submit, and track administrative paperwork, as directed.
  16. Assist Director of Public Relations as needed.
  17. Uphold the AltaPointe core values and the Five-Star Customer Care standards in all interactions and encourage others to do the same.
  18. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.

Position Relationships:

Internal – Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with all staff members and department/program managers.

External – Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with community, media and other stakeholders as assigned by Director of Public Relations.


Bachelor’s degree with experience in journalism, public relations or other field of communication is required. Prefer least one year of full-time experience in a public relations, news media, or advertising agency office. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word / Excel / PowerPoint), Adobe suite, Wordpress or other content management system, social media, and general photography equipment and video editing.
