  • Responsibilities

    Nurse Delegation Program

    • Conducts 24 hour training curriculum for residential employees requiring MAC certification. 
    • Conducts 6 hour training curriculum for nurses requiring MAS certification.
    • Follows rules and regulations of the Nurse Delegation Program
    • Administers testing for MAS and MAC certified employees.                 
    • Selects and delegates to employees based on their ability and attitudes.
    • Conducts quarterly and as indicated evaluation and monitoring of MAC certified employees.
    • Routinely and periodically conducts quality monitoring of the tasks performed by the MAC certified employee including but not limited to:
    • Training
    • Competency
    • Documentation
    • Error reporting
    • Methods of identification of the right person, the right task, the right method, and the right quantity at the right time.
    • If warranted, exercises the right to suspend or withdraw the delegation specific tasks to MAC certified employees.
    • Reports medication errors to the Alabama Department of Mental Health Performance Improvement department and reports required NDP data for ABON report on an annual basis
    • Documents training records and maintains files on all MAS and MAC certified employees.   

    Training, Risk Management, Performance Improvement and Infection Control Responsibilities

    • Adheres to training compliance with AltaPointe’s policies and procedures and all accrediting and licensing entities (i.e. DMH, The Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.)
    • Monitor and conducts Performance Improvement activities to include, but not limited to, peer reviews, incident reports, prescribing system monitoring
    • Works cooperatively with other training staff to ensure a consistent comprehensive training program for AltaPointe
    • Works cooperatively with other training staff to ensure a consistent program and staff education and training needs
    • Administers TB skin tests and Hepatitis B Vaccines to new employees and staff on an annual basis
    • Effectively demonstrates the application of education/training and Risk Management and Infection Control Competencies
    • Is competent in all employee training presentations and conducts training as needed.
    • Review and analyze medication error data and present to Pharmacy and Therapeutics PI Sub-Committee meetings on a quarterly basis and as requested.
    • Compile data for sample medication logs and present to Pharmacy and Therapeutics PI Sub-Committee meetings on a quarterly basis and as requested.


    RN license to practice in the State of Alabama; Medication Assistant Supervising (MAS) nurse certification through DMH and Alabama Board of Nursing.  Knowledge in, psychiatric nursing, educational and training issues; general principles in infection control and risk management; outlined below, to be attained within six (6) months of employment:

    • Knowledge of the Nurse Delegation Program
    • Possesses Medication Assistant Train the Trainer (MATT)
    • Knowledge of the Medication Assistant Certification Program (MAC)
    • Knowledge of  Risk Management  Principles
    • Knowledge of Infection Control Principles
    • Basic knowledge of Medical Terminology
    • Knowledge of General Psychiatric Nursing Care
    • Knowledge of  Environment of Care
    • Knowledge of  Consumer Rights
    • Knowledge of  Cultural Diversity
    • Knowledge and Certification in MindSet Behavioral Intervention Principles
    • Knowledge of Psychiatric Disorders in the Adult and Child Population
    • Knowledge of Educational Methods as they relate to staff
    • Knowledge and certification in CPR
    • Knowledge of Performance Improvement monitoring systems
