AltaPointe provides homes to approximately 50 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.  Our six group homes in West Mobile and Semmes offer a safe, supportive community atmosphere with various levels of independence.  These programs work in conjunction with Day Programs, Supportive Employment, Recreation, and Family Support to provide a comprehensive continuum of high-quality care and services.

Outpatient treatment focuses on recovery, problem resolution, symptom reduction, stabilization and/or prevention of movement to a higher level of care. Treatment varies widely and depends upon the consumer’s presenting symptoms.

$8,000 sign-on bonus (LPN) offered. Details of terms and eligibility will be discussed in the interview.   The Behavioral Health Crisis Center is strategically placed in Mobile County with easy access for the area with the highest need and the most frequent use, the midtown/downtown area of Mobile. This Crisis Center operates a 24/7/365 with a full complement of staff to provide crisis de-escalation and resolution no matter the time or the day.   A study of mental health related law enforcement calls shows that, as one of Alabama’s largest cities, Mobile has the highest demand for police and EMS within the I-65/I-165 corridor. Stationing the Diversion Center in this area will allow expeditious access from Baldwin, Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, and Escambia Counties, which will also utilize the Diversion Center. Mobile Metro Jail is the second largest jail in Alabama. The annual number of individuals booked into the jail is just under 20,000. Since the Stepping Up Initiative began last year, all inmates are screened for mental illness and substance use disorders. Last year 6,828 individuals screened positive for serious mental illness. This is a serious over-representation of mentally ill individuals per capita when compared to statistics for the general population. Most individuals with mental illness or substance use disorders are arrested for petty crimes. These individuals could be diverted from arrest with the addition of more Mobile Crisis response and a Behavioral Health Crisis Center. Based on data collected from Crisis Response Team calls, Access to Care, law enforcement, local emergency departments, and a Community Health Needs Assessments, the size and structure of the Crisis Center must consist of a large living room model staffed by peer specialists, an 18 recliner temporary observation unit, and a 6 bed extended observation unit.

Children's Outpatient Services provides treatment for children and adolescents and their families and is intended to improve and maintain a child’s or an adolescent’s stability in the community. Treatment focuses on problem resolution, symptom reduction, stabilization and/or prevention of movement to a higher level of care. Services include individual, family and group therapy, medication evaluation and management, case management, in home intervention, case consultation and summer day treatment services. EastPointe Hospital is a private, free-standing psychiatric hospital for adults located in Daphne, Ala. EastPointe’s clinical and medical professionals assess and evaluate adults in psychiatric crisis. Treatment focuses on stabilizing psychiatric symptoms and preventing psychiatric commitment. Adults admitted to EastPointe will have exhibited life-threatening, destructive or disabling behavior or symptoms. Each patient completes a psychiatric diagnostic evaluation and receives 24-hour clinical care for an estimated three-to-seven-day stay. The goal is for each patient to return to home or to the least restrictive level of care.

A Mental Health Technician is a professional who provides support to mental healthcare professionals within a mental health crisis center facility.  They observe and record patient behavior and activities and make report to nurses and doctors as required. They ensure patient comfort and care while being treated by engaging with patients during groups and between medical treatments, preparing and serving patient meals, and supervising patient showers and other personal care as needed.  Mental Health Technicians also ensure patient safety by utilizing de-escalation skills to calm patients who might be experiencing a crisis. All de-escalation skills and training will be provided after hire.

The Therapist in AltaPointe’s In Home division provide effective clinical assessment, formulates appropriate treatment plan, and provides individual, group, play, and family therapy. They work in the community, providing outreach services to consumers and their family.

These children have failed to respond successfully to multiple less restrictive treatment interventions. BayPointe offers a caring, structured environment and developmentally appropriate therapeutic services for each child 24 hours a day. The program provides support to families or caregivers that helps maintain, enhance, or develop attachment with their child/adolescent during treatment and throughout the discharge process. Children and adolescents diagnosed with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders receive care in a special mental illness-substance abuse service track. The consumers, families, caregivers, school system personnel, DHR workers, and others as appropriate, are directly involved in the consumer’s treatment and discharge planning. The goal is to improve each child’s or adolescent’s level of functioning and to discharge to a less restrictive treatment setting. The program primarily serves residents of south Alabama; however, the program considers referrals from across the state.

Office professionals work in an outpatient, clinical setting and are responsible for daily reception duties such as fielding phone calls from consumers, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, and scheduling and re-scheduling appointments; assisting with posting to and collecting on consumer accounts; and assisting with other administrative duties as assigned.

A School Based Therapist works in the Public School System to provide all administrative, clinical and mental health services for the consumers. They provide individual, group, family, and play therapy. They also provide outreach services to the consumers and family members.  

AltaPointe’s Adult Residential Services are designed for consumers with serious and persistent mental illness who require social rehabilitation and community support. Combining medical, nursing and clinical services, our staff provides care and treatment for more than 200 adults in need of intensive service provision. The Adult Residential Services Program consists of group homes, which are supervised 24 hours/day when consumers are on the premises.  Expected outcomes are the same for each adult group home: to prevent re-hospitalization and to maximize and maintain successful community placement. Residential care focuses on the rehabilitation and return to the community of seriously mentally ill consumers.
