  • Responsibilities

    Pharmacy Responsibilities

    1. Interprets and evaluates prescription orders entered by medical staff.
    2. Prepares and dispenses medication to AltaPointe consumers according to physician prescriptions
    3. Keeps records of medication and consumer profiles.
    4. Proficient use of pharmacy software systems.
    5. Works with nursing staff to ensure medication orders for the consumers are filled accurately and efficiently.
    6. Ensures pharmacy operates in compliance with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy, and other regulatory and certification bodies.
    7. Provides consultation to consumers and staff.
    8. Performs administrative duties related to the pharmacy and pharmacy technicians.
    9. Maintain the security of the pharmacy and its contents.

    1. Seeks supervision and consultation as needed
    2. Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement
    3. Actively works to enhance skills

    Record Keeping

    1. Documents in a timely fashion and per AltaPointe policy
    2. Documentation shows that forms, notes, logs and other applicable written information are completed promptly, accurately and updated when appropriate
    3. Documents legibly

    Courteous and respectful attitudes towards consumers, visitors and co-workers

    1. Treats consumers with care, dignity and compassion
    2. Respects consumer’s privacy and confidentiality
    3. Is pleasant and cooperative with others
    4. Assists consumers and visitors as needed
    5. Personal values don’t inhibit ability to relate and care for others
    6. Is sensitive to the consumer’s needs, expectations and individual differences
    7. Is gentle and calm with consumers and families

    Administrative and Other Related Duties as Assigned

    1. Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities
    2. Actively participates in AltaPointe committees as required
    3. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner
    4. Follows AltaPointe policies and procedures
    5. Attends to required in-service training and other workshops


    Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy; possession of a license to practice pharmacy in the state of Alabama; two years experience in the practice of pharmacy.

    • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders
    • Knowledge of pharmacy standards and protocols
    • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
    • Knowledge of Cultural Diversity
    • Knowledge of psychopharmacology and the use of psychotropic medications
