  • Overview

    Responsible for the administration of all HR benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 403(b) plan. Manages the employee leave programs to include FMLA, workers compensation, military and personal leave of absence.     

    Responsibilities

    Plans and administers benefits programs and polices

    1. Plans and prepares for the annual benefits fairs.
    2. Monitors benefit trends in the business environment and stays abreast of applicable benefits legislation.
    3. Communicates with benefits’ vendors regarding day to day administration of benefits plans.
    4. Acts as primary contact to employees’ benefits’ questions and/or issues.
    5. Solicits bids for new insurance coverage for existing or non-existing benefits.
    6. Creates, reviews and/or edits summary plan descriptions for each benefit plan.
    7. Presents benefits enrollment information to newly hired or recently transferred staff.
    8. Reconciles and audits benefits recorded by AltaPointe payroll and each benefit vendor on monthly basis.
    9. Inputs new enrollments, changes to current enrollments, and terminations to enrollments to each benefit vendor on a monthly basis.
    10. Processes and files benefits forms and related information.
    11. Administers COBRA for all applicable benefits.
    12. Completes administrative reporting duties such as Form 5500 filing.
    13. Review benefits procedures to ensure most efficient process is being utilized.

    Leave Administration

    1. Leave of absence administration, including coordination of leaves under the FMLA, other applicable federal and state leave laws and company leave policies
    2. Daily tracking, organizing and coordination of leaves; notifying employees of their leave eligibility and rights; processing requests; coordinating health benefit status and payments; coordinating associates' return to work; responding to accommodation requests; generating related leave reports and responding to any other related questions or complaints about leaves
    3. Assure compliance and proper documentation with respect to all laws, regulations and plans, including HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, USERRA, and all applicable federal and state leave acts and company leave programs
    4. Assist managers and supervisors in the administration of leaves, train and update on current and ongoing changes or modifications to federal and state guidelines, and serve as an advisor to other HR Specialists
    5. Seeks guidance and direction from HR Assistant Director when necessary.

    Administers random drug screening program on a quarterly basis

    1. Acts as liaison between the company and the clinic engaged to perform the drug screens
    2. Ensures complete confidentiality of program
    3. Ensures the clinic is operating with the parameters set forth
    4. Manages the data reports for accuracy and efficiency

    Administers Workers’ Compensation (WC) Program

    1. Investigates reports of injury and forwards employer’s First Report of Injury to WC carrier within 24 hours of knowledge of the injury
    2. Opens, monitors, coordinates and follows up on WC claims until closed; administers the daily operations of the WC program for employees who suffer on-the-job injuries and illnesses
    3. Acts as liaison between the employee, WC insurance carrier, and the physician/clinic for medical care and/or claims management
    4. Coordinates temporary limited or light duty positions for workers with partially disabling injuries and illnesses who can work safely while recovering under a physician’s care; obtain necessary medical data to make decisions regarding transitional return-to-work assignments; confer with supervisors and managers to find suitable temporary positions for employees within medical limitations.
    5. According to legal requirements, maintains OSHA injury and illness logs
    6. Steers the safety committee at BayPointe and participates in the safety committee at ARS
    7. Provides technical guidance and advice to supervisors and managers regarding WC issues
    8. Actively tracks and trends injuries to identify potential risks for future injuries and implements safety programs accordingly.
    9. Provides safety, health, and wellness training and educational opportunities for facility as needed.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor degree in human resources or a related field of study

    SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification or similar credential preferred
